Hunting, fishing, Duplessis region
A number of remarkable species, a diverse array of habitats, and a virtually untouched backcountry make the Duplessis region a destination of choice for hunting and fishing. There are no roads to the areas east of Natashquan, but venturing out by plane or boat simply adds to the thrill of the hunt. The Duplessis tourist region is an exotic, virgin wilderness for hunting and fishing as nature intended!

Trout fishing in Duplessis is unforgettable. The angling couldn’t be better in the many streams, rivers, and lakes teeming with indigenous brook trout and nothing but. East of Sept-Îles is also the kingdom of the great Atlantic salmon, which you can keep or throw back, depending on the regulations in effect or your personal preference. Lake trout, ouananiche, whitefish, and northern pike are other favorites in the area.

In winter, climb aboard a snowmobile and blaze your way to an ice fishing experience that can’t be beat! It’s like nowhere else on Earth, with brook trout nearly anywhere you drop your line and rainbow smelt at assorted river mouths all winter long. The hunting possibilities are just as endless. Moose and black bears are found nearly everywhere in the region, and white-tailed deer are so abundant on Île d’Anticosti bag rates are among the highest in North America. Also popular are the snowshoe hare, the ruffed grouse, the spruce goose, the willow ptarmigan, and a vast array of waterfowl. In the Fermont region, avid caribou hunters can now enjoy the services of an outfitter when the herds migrate in.

Hunting and fishing services and lodgings are available at more than thirty outfitters, in controlled salmon and wildlife harvesting zones, and at a wildlife reserve. Reservations are recommended in high season. But for those who would rather set out on their own, much of the region is still free-access public land. Hunting and fishing in the natural quiet of Duplessis, Québec’s great unknown, is one adventure that will keep you coming back again and again!

Licenses
Licenses are required for fishing, hunting, or trapping in Québec. They are available from all authorized agents.
